Bulger On Trial:Boston's Most Notorious Gangster and the Pursuit of Justice

Bulger On Trial: Boston's Most Notorious Gangster And The Pursuit Of Justice

Written by: David Boeri

Stars: 3

If you have any interest in true crime, or mobsters, this book will take you into the dark life of James "Whitey" Bulger and his crimes committed mostly while a part of the Winter Hill Gang. This book was a long time in the writing in that the author, David Boeri, had been following the crimes of James Bulger for many years, including the many years that Bulger was a fugitive. This book will take you through each killing either performed by Bulger, with him as an accessory, or ordered by him and carried out by other members of his gang. If you don't know the sorted tale of Bulger's rise to power, you just might be amazed where he got a lot of assistance from, and how he knew when it was time to disappear.

Wondering why I only gave this book 3 stars? The major reason is that by the time I finally got to the end of the book I was glad I was finally done with it. Not because of the content, but because it was repeated so many times I started to feel that I could recite each crime committed by Bulger and in their proper order. Basically, I just got bored reading the same things over and over again. Some repetition is expected since this did cover his trial, but I felt like Mr. Boeri was hitting me over the head with it, repeatedly. I think if the book were tightened up a bit, it wouldn't have caused such a reaction in me. Do be warned that there is foul language, and some gruesome details about the crimes committed along with a few pictures, so this book is best for adults.
